But I guess I brought this on myself.

About a week ago I joined the addicting world of Pinterest. And one of the blogs I follow is doing a Pinterest Challenge. I thought, "I could do that!" Well not as fast as them but why not find something I like, then do it. Finally put things on our bare walls. I came across this picture in the DIY section and decided I had to do it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjchWvKCOjEcPHcooNzJgXWZa4wEcWqPpWwuLWq4naVOJbBHX68poXq58cRtipJ7b_kevA_vzzvpkDKHojtP5dueIiiE2D5zHF3_5gApR0g5DmeLiNnGZ-jWxcSpoZYP4NM8z0EDryS2hw/s320/photo+1.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639068126237624674" />

So I ran to JoAnns got an "E" and figured I could use some left over jute that I had laying around. Oh an "E" you ask? One day while thrift store hopping we found a "R" and thought how fun it'd be if we had all the letters of our last name scattered throughout the house. So that's why I got the "E". I got home and was testing different ways to wrap it and finally found one that worked. All in all it probably took me 30 minutes or less and a burnt leg. Stupid hot glue gun. Here she is...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu4MNUATLQd5AK6JtcG5xpcw5_E4KTz2rhmYQEyE8jrB-CdXlFaGTU0fOhpzOSbFSq4FqnDIwK_TAG9rNFYY0V268I0N7jmgrBPN-C0neym17WijYy35uDJUHLtRDJoIKINkEPPWyohIE/s320/photo+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639068328726424386" />

So cute! Now we didn't put it up because we weren't sure where it was going so we put it on the kitchen counter, right up against the wall, where a certain dog would clearly have a hard time reaching. I'm sure all of you who know Winston, know where I'm going with this. When we got home tonight I was welcomed with this..

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZWcnWQojT5i4vDLM5yVgCjbS9Cu8OSItwdBHRm3AzYVguuN5syhLgHXPSRmMPIlV6cOqW3iWqAeSqk44vHMGGWaa2yxyWMUbn67vkmWQUWaSRgLyGZtHKbKfIKl1la4ZV8DbyBIAXHbU/s320/photo+3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639069024586136130" />

That's just the jute...we aren't sure where the "E" went. His belly I'm sure. We were just amazed by the fact that he worked really hard to get the jute off and he only ate the "E", oh and a empty box of pop tarts. He never seizes to amaze me. Now I get to go and do that all over again..Here is how the trouble maker looks now..
It's a little lengthy so I apologize now!

We've been busy working on our bedroom. We painted and finally painted our dresser but I'll get to that later this week. We also built our bed. Thank you ana-white.com. Well sort of.

We originally wanted an old door for a head board and actually got an AMAZING door from a friend. The only problem was that it had been outside in the rain and had bugs crawling all over it. No matter what Tim did to clean it, they seemed to come back. He even tried to start stripping it but it probably has about 6 or more layers of paint on it. We figured once we got it completely stripped, cleaned, de-bugged, and sanded it'd be about a month or so before it was ready to be painted/stained and we were becoming impatient. We also thought about doing a reclaimed barn wood headboard. There's a barn close to us and we seriously thought about going in there and taking some wood. But we weren't sure how we'd get the wood (since the wood we liked is still an actual part of the barn) and how bad it'd smell when it got hot. Nothing more romantic than a poop smelling headboard. So we went with the whole buying new wood and beating the crap out of it route. And we are happy we did!

Before we actually built the bed I wanted to have our night stands so we knew how tall the bed needed to be. We bought old crates from an antique store and added a small piece of wood in the center for a shelf. We finally had an idea of the bed we wanted, our night stands, and the money to buy the wood. So lets get to building!

First we built the base of the bed, like where our mattress actually lays. We took a few 2 by 4's and built it out and then screwed some plywood down to support the mattress. I actually did a lot more cutting this time around. After we built that we took that up to our room and put the mattress on it. I put an old sheet down before the mattress so the plywood wouldn't snag the mattress.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1aOXTdOFYxDPkY2480U-OMY9oHkpOJjAPa7ZXw8zr93s2Tw6OmFd0NooO3x7sDRfnfz_Zb7uHye7ei5cJK6zygEectU-rC5lokUAZJDWifWIJpYo5L15bPTriCENpSG6C6eFUnCOPE8w/s320/photo+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5635873176567169474" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_ftGvzLTqc7H5dPpfVhynDrgkR8vX6Y2C_7AB5s6aKtKJ_mSfTgx9SF9RqiMudQED3GNCrIz6Vemcsd7kuHvP2X02zc_vok9B1pPL3LwnxnLB7f4AbkZ0PaSptc-C03IQuPDBpleLbCE/s320/photo+3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5635872814526015138" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6g6uenvzMNq2mEdfxy_FNgMWEPIwt2JtxV6JFWeBDUG_iWWIhhHUsrz2kneA2rk2zbYktW58Uw78j2YCkMdoFAFac0YPQxKrazEGfUWIzGUVg13OrlI1JOfABwd6BMG1yxac7Srx0vEw/s320/photo+4.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5635873593887098898" />

We then made the last few cuts we needed and stained the pieces. We did this because we had to build the bed in our room and we didn't want to worry about having stain dripping on the carpet. We had some left over stain from our outdoor furniture and since we love it so much, we just used it. As for the headboard, before we stained it we took a chain, hammer, mallet, hand saw, and screws and took any anger out on the wood. We laid the screws down and hit it with the mallet or hammer and banged the chain and hand saw all over it. It was kind of dangerous but it was a lot of fun.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbHzcDqke3F1_yVTN__w4mPXczQhUhz6hKRkM1ZRK0pNjCfco3E2gDS-vQfC5lTa4dBpt7l3kXNSCDs0FglYaBc1kp0mzTYGta7p5db0elf3wGTyf65CoQrbim2VKdHEIuL6GSIauXZL8/s320/photo+5.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5635875444953682146" />

After letting the stain dry we took the pieces up to our room and built that bad boy. We screwed the outer pieces onto the frame, added the front and back legs. Then we put the mattress back on and tested it out...it was a little taller than we thought it was going to be...Winston wasn't too sure about it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNVYttNYX9acMPakUzoksYYDdsmyiabWU4CR4GNaw1FbG6sl4R2GFx8Ivsl1qqIQbpP2t5u_SWi8twH69IP8bDvpxY4wNxEd9h62BKsTX-PMheCVH6q73wPcr8sBuZBCCldB9SeZSvKD4/s320/photo+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5635877124029455858" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilio09c0cDB5igBV3WHPHeANiq78JQaTdZcP2Yt-qP2ElErY7CPEvSvdVJDQLn3btP-tbfcLY6otXhHv3VIHTA2GA2fTdMzV2RRwlaC-yjurNBnrHzJzNT0eI7Zs8KjGCpyZe8t0ixGf0/s320/photo+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5635877577653852866" />

We then added the pieces for the headboard. I had Tim screw the screws into the back because I wanted that clean look. At first we were going to do the boards where they we perfectly lined up but after putting the first one on we decided we wanted to make it look jig-jaggidy.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh1trpK62L9Pxhv5XVuMVifRWBwoGMzYBsq-tKTdAym_sxIWW7UuP5_cAcGtqPlkDuI5hOQTgV_lbNe7OKqs5YT8_QGKWttr1fVkjbuOGtrCLVix9zSXgEqNA6opXB4SyOuEF8qFTuv0E/s320/photo+3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5635878435156616802" />

Here it is! We love it. It's a lot taller than we thought and are still getting used to that. But after having our mattress on the floor for 8 months, anything would feel too tall! Thank you for your ideas! We ended up getting roman shades. I looked at all the different was to make my own and went to price them out at Lowes and we ended up just buying them at Lowes. What can I say, sometimes we are suckers for the easy way out! :) Tim just put them up and it's kind of amazing how cool it already seems to be! I'm sad that we ended up having to cover the wonderful light...but we can always pull them up and leave them up when it isn't 105 outside!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_rbQ_C66BwLQ_XLyzBPqiTcS0D_Lwh7wEGKTsXXKtIfSCjndeW3QXBuZjWVJBcHvBYI6UnqYlGdi1iR1VOAzsUjQQPbNzqWY8IdGNQwtzUERBVhwSNQE3K3Wu690z0mBV854WPHaWEg4/s320/photo+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5633055671963895938" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVO-BHujbVuD9NXWtCFHezLJgOI-kDYBZnq5NPb5fvd_wEMulDjq8XOHM1f2v8WKvn_VMfR-3O4jjshyjItfRuFMwuEz8-4i5xcXD5JPTbvnJpJZL_ye-BBE5U9z7Lz2mL4Ugn3QFOJHM/s320/photo+3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5633056064525612290" />
Here's Tim making sure that the latches are level.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9b7KFv5bPM0zlKKOY_YZdJrzSPpVKvZCvfWH8DCKVDmb4iQV75FZgpZObViMFSvs_jV9Uk2atV234e_6H8vITGbVfsV2Kl31Rn-DCtjpndJQhvN_PXYjNu7iu36BX3z-owexKTU5KpjY/s320/photo+4.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5633056732921901410" />
Ahhh, Much Better!!

These roman shades are the "classic thermal" shades from allen & roth and are just classic white. And not to mention our electric bill is getting out of control!! First order of business is I'm going to line our curtains with a thermal liner. Now why we are needing your help. Our back door has been curtainless/blindless since we moved in and we have always liked it like that. And with the weather being so hot we are now faced with needing to put something up. I want curtains (probably plain ol'white) because personally I'm over blinds and I'm nervous that this sweet face will ruin them like he usually does.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 238px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOSzLGz-3Q0JT5zmleO3175jYSPkzrNZdke_UyiD1pc4Rizdt_ZNXBOEhzxWbUgExfdXNxkjHP-KzXfaFB7LROZi4rpkj933mLQ7CNCK00LVPe86C0CT-yZ192p1z4wPlQfCDQ7juV5bk/s320/photo-2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631937792031074690" />

But Tim wants pull down blinds something like these..

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjPXIBlIhCiLRUdzORjUT1usceFkPI-17iuwDGg8168QjM5Mb2qjwuCGp-SXq4cVC2yIwXjT-0TUm3tyINRb4cO5z-MBH2M0xg5krBikPB9p7CjLW5O1stxZnOEfFkr0Rrj1OZWT0TuIU/s320/750227002379xl.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631938442852149682" />

He thinks that with all the curtains upstairs being closed the wall will look like one big curtain and he doesn't want to cover up the molding. We made a love seat, coffee table and a little end table. We basically took the same concept of the chair but made it bigger. And the tables...Tim just whipped those together one day when I was at work. I guess you can say we are really into building our own furniture now! Our next big build will be our bed!! Woo-Hoo!! I'm beyond excited for that day! More on that on a later date!!

Our next step was picking out the stain color. We wanted something on the dark side but we still wanted to see the wood. I can't remember the name of the stain...hold on..Oxford Brown from I believe Lowe's. And to be honest...there's a good chance that that isn't the real color. The paint guy, let me re-phrase that, The paint KID had no idea what he was doing! We stood back there and watched him guess what he was doing for about 20 minutes, but whatever he did we love!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXOB-Lh45OmPOeFUylq8q3TrQNOE-tlRFdUVrYCt3zJv3HvEUUvJPCXmN_zqGhbSKYZ6cYiOe8RLMgo3JoQip-W_YGiihvn0ys7gjssg0DHGqsG-LK-XVurL-vLB6hGH2RYeNNWmn50x0/s320/photo+42.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5626413041762067490" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUz7MtX7ZMpvKrTGIFeKwNxm56rFENDAP7rxAuXmnqSyEU4OJpdO99WoxwMM44N-xRkuAewNlF5NTGSEX9_4IFDwxtAEZhOtiFDr9ArrDpxmXOPwf9VqbSrQHwnD5AhOW1aOkawGbPUqM/s320/photo+32.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5626414078180743234" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2rKwR2SUXa8MtAT_zqeVZnc_lEVoYIERNsa_Dg5pd2NNAza37qekHMAoHT4Q1oCB6_m1d51Xl2TCuD2qtgTrKu5Z3ABW0wwsmHYo3MInF00pVxGwZxF4rG5qfRA8GUPxUDBiHyZHVQQ4/s320/photo+5.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5626413314440744194" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0VT89Hb3iO2xKJAGTrNZ0eqpQTbbHqO1MXsv0f2EfCi7HCpYrEXJsITAXjhbMgig4oe5DE2scyjTp5e9Bc2oj6efOST01Re6bMWX2ocmxxYD8y0k4bDDSZnDEkUcwlOZqsEHSK3JxYqk/s320/photo+23.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5626413734288477426" />

All we did with the stain was, coat a piece of wood and then wipe it down. You can kind of see them in the first "after" picture. All he did was, took a mason jar and some small wire and wrapped that around a few times and then made a loop. Filled it with sand from our sand bow (yea, we have a sand box..) and then we put a candle in it. Also we hung some old christmas lights up until we buy some lights that are a little bigger. Some time soon we will get a picture of all this at night so you can see what "Twinkle Time" looks like. Yup we named it.

We love the end results and how beyond easy it was. And all in all I bet it took us 2 full days start to finish. We did it in about week all spread out. I hope this inspires you guys to build something!! And I promise to post a picture of how looks at night! :)

jojodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-31511589015418566442011-07-03T14:05:00.000-07:002011-07-03T17:25:01.076-07:00Outdoor Furniture-Part 1!Well we've been busy this past month! I've been meaning to update but just having really had the time!

So it all starts back a few months. When the weather started getting nice, we decided to go outdoor furniture hunting and lord it was all so expensive! It's kind of ridiculous how expensive some of the stuff is out there. That got me thinking, why can't we just make our own? Some friends from church told us about a website called ana-white.com, so I went and checked it out. This girl builds everything, including outdoor furniture! After searching through the different options we decided we wanted to do a sectional. We liked that it was a little different than the usual stuff out there and the chairs were moveable so if you didn't want to sit close to someone you could move your chair. We went to Lowe's and priced it all out and figured out it was going to cost maybe $200 to build it all and get/make cushions. Um yes please! We decided to build one and make sure that we could actually do it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG7KlO2-vxHfo6w_yvp46sGgnpGCD5RH1DEu5i8vB2g0Xb94LZlzpz4XN-WcQl8EKXxAJXwVenfzmClPMgPsQdKowzlF54nA9SC9Wexb7sYvZ1bKVIepHploVppyJhotfvT9P6alN3lO0/s320/photo+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5625277509632692722" />
Here's Tim picking out wood.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSJksVTc_AyluEl2BAlaUAj1c-bEt2zxD5HesNC3o9o-yPQ9hQJL-2UEBJKBy3u-NewU0MV0fCbfRCkF0vxRjPh0P3MZfwjNf5Dwk2piTh4YXpVEBIibpIC2x0W0hwVEVmxcXHpu1JKEE/s320/photo+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5625277516419492482" />
I learned that warped wood is bad and that more than half the pile is full of warped wood.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirs1LyD_efTRc2DY-FGnMS025jXZlJc4-RCXMG1UqlLsUKbZnsTGGsDEkF-GdiVpNgfCZ4C8UCsRWRJsLN784v2WKv4-f9ImZQgavNBrfg1gXjUVhxkL4tftGc_-kup0B9ExK1eHvJin4/s320/photo-1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5625282735031940482" />
This is what I do at Lowe's...that thing spins...it's awesome!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5q3PTfKpf2oHZ63CvkyIe-Dlg31IYHw2sfehqaZK8VjNudyGvpNbsLT5NAcxUJRSOKy4ySws6CeI7NgA47qwSDecr_QYhdveLXnJmIdt8tR0TMHQtmZMQQeZsuq6wq9ESslbPq7bxVak/s320/photo+4.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5625278461430611170" />
Tim measuring the wood.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYMzs4zfpP7u1mxjkrYMEqZQKz7dPrszmbV2XOhVL3hGUGbsziZXVjv3is6julswdvkTbPh_3HlDStr1aoXe5bIy1VbMAJWBrq0MbvYnCrExkYmaJ6qvVh3xML6QyPhyixbjVHb1cjxLw/s320/photo+1-1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5625278462646016402" />
And cutting it. You can see the step by step process on ana-white.com :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH-GqSJKX2wdzUxzoRy90HVJgfKZyrrnijISezT3_6GDIEv06-GygtJM-G27Hdoy7cjiLW9ylmI4-Q2ziilq5c5IJrilfVlnN26MO7LU3hgUaAo3e2hBfyyTom7e-MJ8NUlx_XF7lJiSg/s320/photo+13.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5625280706043116706" />
And here he is in all his glory. It's so easy! When we were thinking about our downstairs doors, we didn't want to do those annoying vertical blinds. We had those at our old house and honestly I wanted to set them on fire! :) I wanted to make sure that it was bright enough during the day, but not too bright for when Tim is editing. And I wanted them to give us privacy at night. The backyard at night creeps me out so I had to make sure they covered the doors.

I wanted the fabric to be more on the neutral side. That way if we ever want to change up the room, they should match. Not gonna lie, I've been in love with the new zig zag fabric that is out there. At first I wanted the green and white zig zag but figured i have enough green and that wasn't all that neutral. So I went with the gray and white. I found it on I believe buyfabrics.com for only $6 something a yard..that's amazing! The plan was to use black out fabric behind it but I was worried I'd mess it up if I had to sew. So here's what I did.

First I washed the fabric and after it was dry i figured out what was half and cut it. I didn't wash them last time and the upstairs curtains are a little stiff. After that I busted out the no sew tape and went to town. All you do is cut the tape the same length as the side you're doing, fold it over the same width as the tape and then hold the iron on the spot, no wiggling. I only did a little at a time so I didn't mess it up. I'm a little OCD and I had to do it like this: Top, Bottom, Side, Side on both pieces. You can do it anyway your heart desires, I'm just weird. Obviously after washing them they were wrinkling, so I tried to iron them. I hate ironing! Even though they didn't come out with no wrinkles, we still love them! It gives them a more "we've been here a while" look.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 124px; height: 166px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMZhHpyi_r090kxmR6-iAOo40-GYgVzqwQxkvjzCevRpqzS2LpaDqWqCNevaqjx9fd2j5ijUGhok-wlHBQs8MLRUQZO6HbkpQw6S5gCZ7uN30yxoC9d0gJdP_6fLexz9OdR8WESxxoFoo/s320/mail.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613421696161135554" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 124px; height: 166px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhNJFAcE3cYgYRpuLVTCHvHbZh1-YhHTAqiLqsAbGC7-ZBw2dhXZXSeBJsRFmApdzZ02f1s6wneeh_bPzKADCeeDsf_3NydKhDVFy65byoQohe7gH3-kIjJZdocGemt68KYh5SA4Bs-F8/s320/mail-1.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613421892330495426" />

I guess I should mention that I bought the rings with the clips on them. Wedding season has started for Tim so our weekends aren't as free and relaxing as they used to be. Also I haven't really been inspired by anything lately. I feel like I've hit a wall and just don't want to do anything anymore! And I'm not going to lie..it's hard to do anything when there isn't some cash flowing in. :) But that's all about to change!

I've been saving some money so we can redo somethings in the kitchen. Like a new counter top, new back splash, new sink and faucet, and paint all the cabinets a true white (I really don't like that they are a creamy white and our appliances are white. Drives me crazy!) Tim approached me one day suggesting using that money for all the things we're wanting to get done now. Let me show you this list of things we need/want done now...

•build outdoor sectional, get cushions
•make bed
•decorate bedroom!!
•paint bedroom and do something on bed wall
•finish dresser!
•organize closet and laundry room
•make coffee table
•finish curtains downstairs
•grill

That's a hefty list for the amount of money I've got stashed. But I'm bound and determined to get as much of it done as I can. Now that we've decided we are going to do this, I need to find some inspiration. So I guess that should be first on the list...

Wish us luck!!

jojodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-10492776108095507252011-05-04T18:26:00.000-07:002011-05-04T18:51:20.846-07:00Another Room Down...Almost.So I've already told you all about how when we moved in Tim and I decided to do one room at a time. At that time we decided we were going to do all the upstairs and the basement would be last. Well that didn't last long! Honestly we spend most of our time down there and since Tim went full time with his photography, he is down there all the time, it made sense to start working down there. It's funny what a can of paint can do in a room! We were thinking about doing either a green or a blue, but nothing that was too bright or too dark. Since it serves as 2 rooms I had to think what would be best. Green was out. Every time I walked by the green swatch, it just didn't scream out at me! At one of our many trips to Lowes, Tim found the perfect blue. I think we ended buying a sample can that night! We fell in love! Tim wasn't sold on every wall being blue, and while watching a re-run of Project Runway I noticed one of their walls in the Lounge had a cool design to it. I thought it'd be cool to do something on the office side to help define the different areas. We both drew out different ideas but we ended up doing horizontal lines that gradually get bigger as they go up. It's so fun and it breaks up all the blue! We also rearranged the room but of course I don't have a before of that...only one of how it looked before we painted. I'm awesome.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmzT03RkIaUDCAEjHPPifB2dXSpQPaj9dbo5w70chH08WHVKki2mT4HSssEx9qsmoBjbcrQ3WcjRi7j_ujLMPCJouL8yw00Gzq5iGpKYnxjuqRdW6xVNAYv0UC2L4womQc5ZZAZdcYSQM/s320/photo+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603038361685077522" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ269IC2UgVoSBXM_KBrxIji8c7E66Gz6eYkOrC-_qoMPlBJgHaYKRsE1APgmHlzd6iBv_5ucaWPJH1mIbjtf4d6Qs_DBIBQkjMip78aIDQg5E-Fgjw60FCoMq5LMWaABgyLKxpf1RCDU/s320/photo+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5603038611095002642" />

I guess I should mention how amazing my husband is...so I painted the white wall one day to prepare for whatever design we were going to do. They're done!!! Are you as excited as we are??? I hope so!!

Of course I'm talking about the chairs for the living room! They're amazing! I actually gave the upholster Sandy a hug. :) She did such a good job. She had a fight with them when she put the nail heads in. There are a few spots that I need to go back and touch up, i just haven't had time. Plus you wouldn't be able to see it unless you had your face super close to them. Oh and I guess I should mention how long it took her...3 days! We dropped them off on Sunday and she called me Wednesday telling me they were done! Now compared to some of the other places I called..this is a steal. (One person wanted $180 a chair, hahahahahaha!!) Tim and I drove them up north on Sunday and met Sandy. She's awesome. She teased me a lot for what I thought I could do. I should get them sometime this week!! eeeee!! If you or anyone is in need of some upholstery, contact her! thegoodjunkshop@yahoo.com and her name is Sandy. Just one tip..if you do what Tim and I did, keep the fabric that you took off. She needs that to make a pattern out of it, so don't throw the scrapes away. Or she said she's had someone take her the chair, she rips it all off, you go back and get it so you can paint it, and then take it back for her to finish.

Ok now onto the latest thing we've finished. I'm awful and only have a before picture from when we first moved in, In the living room, all of our walls are either tall and completely empty or full of windows. So we had to decide how we were going to fill those tall, completely empty walls. We thought out a few different ideas and decided on 2 different things for the 2 walls. The one wall that goes up our stairs is getting a special little treatment that you'll have to wait for! The other wall upstairs got a shelf face lift. We really thought this through. On one of our many trips to Lowe's we checked out their shelving choices and wrote down the measurements of the 3 different sizes we liked. When we got home, Tim took a picture or the wall and loaded that picture onto photo shop and sized down the measurements of the shelves so we could visually see what they'd look like. We decided on 2 large, 2 medium, and 3 small. We went back and got them and then we put those bad boys up. I'm not going to lie, these have been up since February, I just haven't finished filling the shelves.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl-qL1MVPOyO_kveDxzJq1CvjZjOhX6wiPE8Ahg0Z_7GaaH0g24IHNROMA_u5KAKZZCUmbViacjkgOB1TPa3v2Q8Dod9QzixGhliLK_cvNAI7YQzuGxZ6Kq5PmBwVS10rNcducQ8hGPRg/s320/TIM_4489.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5594860981783468450" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjweqU8HY_QOU9FmE03g0A3Hiewn5KdjJ4nLapaYclluOCa4PH142I5RpIreBE8K9W9TQV-5laxRYryCNiWUCpIL1Nidw9r5av3yionHV1eKvot1Y5NpN_OXj53GM4GFQZiEhmxe2u7eTk/s320/photo-4.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5594859692112120642" />

Pretty much everything on these shelves are from thrift stores. And anything that is an animal or a nick-knack, we sprayed painted. We didn't really have an idea of what we wanted up there, whenever we saw something we liked, we got it. (Sometimes not knowing if it'd work anywhere!) After we painted the whole area and put up the curtains, I decided I wanted to bring in some other colors other than gray, yellow, and tealish-blueish. We went with orange and that granny smith apple green that I am now officially obsessed with. Tim might have to take the spray paint can away from me. :)

One thing we knew we wanted was a big, marquee "F". We had a hard time with that...let's be honest, we are still having a hard time with that. They are not cheap and we can't find one that fits everything we want. We might make one some day but for now we are happy with the foam board "F" Tim made last minute.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpfVPPhd6JNcSpYrJOXZZNG8mnoiLhZuJfjN9_9mfLnjm7Rdd_tzTaO1CbWXzgOvs3iqBMPKuaDir9vQTfTxlYJrCif4Xx68KbHMTbYn1SmtLAMvjURhV-p_DHx8Xin19zu5miHBsyYOM/s320/photo-3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5594860162812828386" />

I'm happy with it...for now. I'm sure I'll see something at a thrift store that would look better up there. Who knows how many times the things up there will change! Oh and that lamp will be changing very soon! Hopefully you'll be hearing from me by the end of the week with the finished chairs!!

jojodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-47817336525512396912011-04-06T18:02:00.000-07:002011-04-06T19:13:53.650-07:00Chair Blues..I'm kind of sad..and when I say kind of, I mean I'm really really sad. Since I've had some days off, we decided to get to work on the new chairs for the living room. I found these amazing Victorian armchairs on craigslist for $100. Now I would of barter with the lady but...I was scared for our lives. I was happy Tim was with me...The lady met us in the hallway of a creepy apartment complex and told us to be quiet because there was a sleeping baby. (Riiiight) Once inside there were a handful of medieval swords and knives all over the wall in this house..At this point you'd think we'd leave. Nope! I had to have these chairs!! She showed them to us, I said yes before she could even finish telling us about them, gave her her money and peaced out!! Now I'm sure this lady was super nice and just liked collecting medieval things but it was creepy!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPMk9fkHwhfKREOTnrFm5WdqCc9UidBqipaGaZutuOntVeo82ky00Dy_lScBFDt0e14jyowBRsPTKii3u3TXQQOO6E1jgUhq7FIVyctA6lkemyEBf_EpLEnKqGYw1qt8wO4j0bbCQU6qs/s320/photo.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592643564537652914" />

Worth it right?!?

At first, I was going to have a professional take care of the twins but one of my sister-in-laws helped me figure out how to get the back of the chair off. They were a pain in my butt...lots of bad things came out of my mouth. :) I'll leave it at that. With lots of muscle help from Tim we got all that awful fabric off and we sanded them...mainly by hand. There are a lot of intrigue areas on these chairs. It took a lot longer than I wanted!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk82N_b3yw6r6fjebO57YGe-TjMNhHOHs8ajWNabDbstVMCfWPp3mYb7wufw0Lcu2F_hccqQwKtJf34isnq_54WG_AdCybpbqgk1JHeyFaBeP93dpT4WYhro5DLgEeR79IyWIUGmVCrLI/s320/photo-1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592652593768158946" />

We decided we were going to spray paint these to avoid dripping. That was one problem we had with our dining room chairs. We put on a coat of primer and noticed that the paint wasn't sticking to those intricate little areas!! BAH! I had Tim do a coat of spray paint just to make sure it was a bust, and it was. Still no sticking. We ended up buying a quart of nice white paint and did 4 light coats.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbS5JvGIUo1iooZa8aejnOiEmF_MNscvDZ-gFDCSS9DHTa-Eu_Kh14aCJztXZ5WrAz2TLApVPWX3Uk7-vMpWx2b_sg9A8T5EOu-F4_e4fJAZx9ACGi4iPGnvVvPnbd6Oy-FFnCHB7DP0E/s320/photo-2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592653760683159122" />

SO PRETTY!!

Now on to why I'm sad...I had everything we needed..fabric, cording, and nail head trim. Tim and I covered the seat cushions with muslin (I didn't feel like taking off that fabric) and I got the fun, bright, new fabric out and found out that we don't have the right tools. We tried the staple gun we used for our dining chairs but the staples weren't holding the fabric. We even got out the loud compressor hoping the extra umph would do the trick..no such luck!! So now I'm back to square one. I wanted so badly for these chairs to be done! I'll be calling around for a decent upholsterer and hopefully soon I'll have the final product! If you know of anyone who won't charge me an arm and a leg..please pass along their info!!

jojodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-62614866995469486332011-04-04T09:54:00.000-07:002011-04-04T10:46:34.121-07:00I need your help!So yes I still suck at this whole blog thing..I promise I'm going to try to do better! Our problem is we start something and then before it's finished we have to do something else, so things aren't getting finished. And I can't blog about unfinished things!! I've been off for a few days so things have been getting done...meaning you're going to get a butt load of blog updates! woo-hoo!!

Anyway, Tim and I can't agree on something..so I thought I'd ask for some help! At the end of our hallway Tim painted a mirror we got from a thrift store ($2!!) orange and put it up and surprised me. I love it!! But I think there needs to be something else down there with it. I was thinking a book shelf. Now we would have to build it because I don't think there's a book shelf out there that matches our exact measurements. I was thinking something along these lines..

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnarYIgAuZJxU3oBZV1g__bIQHgo_Ty_DUL6yHkhM7GhGpXWoLWNOUWPvWTF-2hxE0No5hEH7o8tyq6s60e81tJaqm3B2Nnq9rdMFfHDb5APIUpseR3FwmyZpwP5lgMlNB2k4_L22AFS4/s320/bookshelf.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591779845564336834" />

(i found this picture searching in google, not sure where it's from)

I even love the color on back. I love it so much I decided to bring in it the living room, I bought spray paint that matches and went to town on some candle stick holders and some other little nick knacks. I measured out what I thought would look good and what wouldn't be awkward when walking out of our room but my wonderful husband still isn't sold on it. I think it'd look so good down there! So I thought I'd ask you guys what you think...here's the hallway..

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieEtN1l1CorYZEH1B8-4LNkHJvWlLaLbNpR5Yn8KfubnVw_h7lQdV36bzCN0HDXctNRBYPitiqYPAQAyMjougE638mN3eP_yAF-9t2P8rRR_s6zUjdpdvm3emkT28fl3xpg_JOoT7l4Do/s320/Hall.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591785540449806210" />

What do you guys think...Let me know!!!!

jojodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-27001085765660327162011-03-13T14:32:00.000-07:002011-03-13T15:39:06.545-07:00Dining Room Chairs...FINALLY!!!First of all...who has 2 thumbs and sucks at updating her blog?? *THIS GIRL!!* Man it's been awhile. A lot of things have been going on over here and has kind of put a hold on somethings. But we are back!! We finished our chairs, yay!! And we've put some stuff on the walls! But first the chairs!

It's sort of annoying how long these 6 chairs took us. Tim started this project before Christmas...yea you read that right, Christmas!! He sanded the table and 4 chairs that came with the table and the other 2 chairs we got for our captain chairs (they only set us back $20). We wanted the table to have more of a rustic, farm look. So all he did was sand it and did a light coat of stain. You can see nicks and some parts are a little darker than other parts, but that's what we wanted! We love it! It's been upstairs since Christmas...so now here's the story on those chairs.

When we bought the table it came with 4 ladder back chairs. I thought that we could paint them and add fabric to them and be done with it. Well..first they were bigger than the chairs we got for the Captains chairs, and second I kind of hated them. They weren't exactly what I was wanting. Before we even put an offer on a house I found this picture online and decided we had to do this!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrjKEQ7sM0gX5aTTMelidrpUsQNrKCRbH7sf_BqXp7wNFPHDJLI0iZ1Y4n05rTQLxZPNgzKqWbAuN51NDD11U_2_C_WNMxu_33Nz9t8GgRQDf4x8SrSQgeQimSRP091Si6cDvIDqG-TeE/s320/idea-1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583692042945041410" />

Sadly we can't have the buffet but we still went through with our plan. Tim already had 3 out of the 4 chairs sanded when I finally told him I didn't care for them. :) He told me if I could find some chairs for super cheap and within a certain time limit, I could get them. So I hunted on craigslist constantly for 2 weeks until I found these gems for $15. Well when Tim picked them up, he only had a 20, so actually they were $20. But still..that's awesome!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXfIX_El34KReX4S-BfK7Bo6P0Kuh5aocQWBpcUqr8o7RyYMXQudskvDHvFKix7W3t0ZPh0t9r6pcM8Q0oIS4UFHjOk2Pn4-TwVZ3oG40vF20LCTpmLcdBjyzBdx5ShhcgretokxaCeCE/s320/chairs+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583692464681022210" />

We sanded these and had to do 3 coats on all the chairs. I recovered all the seats and a seat from a chair I got for my desk that was $15 at a flea mart. (the chair on the right is 1 of the Captains Chairs and the other one is my desk chair!)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB1_HFXyGKjQVsOIN8br26Q9HGyJrebrym0zRB8QavCSiqUTKnNxUVNeQ4_P2Dql3WOa16Uq9A7v7X1Eu7RLtF5UhMM_tIZ2kMtArLMDL2uShhq_j5TRBhP_5e2laJSh0F-BfHgjMJ0cA/s320/Chairs+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583692727871629906" />

So without further ado...here they are!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihUMNqKj_nRoygtjmf2QJsurDYkFLvKkEVCh5K6CW9Zj1aza2R0hKFApMu5oFY_YuLLfZJnw1x_vPe3tSJmzgQ24uR6fY2rP7WETJ_Q59jM1cFCRVI5V1mo51eXBTGVf4QhfZY4PNEQFE/s320/finish+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583696218056441490" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXBpAT8CMYWEoAGg0xD4O5QXULD5bdM_VNhyvF-o2d6ZxfyJ9R_udNjZWtUqimT_VpvGA6kNXdB8bOnCaNcqOJvdXL4QG7KL5SkJALtWLfsbWbGSGLSIMPnKxVFjoFmh7pAfp9v14HmCI/s320/finish+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583696409163183554" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI_Y8_60Kn3L5eBgpGEH1JwIdjEHCkFyJ0OYxXAYFItSgSRBTgL9IV9ERlMs_0-u3guSkCfWIP6AMm6pq7IQPv1dK9jzaXXB3AJLu8NTTHP_UOCstSzqmKtW1ESVrJaj-mcxMkfQqrkIM/s320/finish+3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583696595679941250" />

We are very happy with the finish product!!

As a side note..Tim is a full time photographer!! Woo Hoo!!!

jojodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-43227226376289926642011-02-06T17:19:00.000-08:002011-02-06T17:31:16.188-08:00The Little Things!First off...props to Tim for making our blog look amazing! I love it, don't you? Thanks Tim!

Second, I thought while you're patiently waiting for our chairs to get finished, I'd share some things from in the house.

When we bought the house we had a million different ideas of what we wanted to do here and there, and that's when we decided were going to do a room at a time. That way we could put all our focus on that room and not feel overwhelmed. Obviously we tackled the biggest and most seen area of the house. Sadly, it's a big area and is kind of overwhelming, ha! But I think we're doing a good job so far! The one thing we promised each other is that we'd do everything...and I mean everything...on a budget. Now we never really sat down and said this is how much we are spending, it's just an understanding. Actually that's one of the reasons we decided to do this blog. I love watching HGTV and I really like "Sarah's House." She completely guts a house and then walks you through all she does. Only problem is, she has an endless amount of money. Yea if I had $150,000 to redo a room I'd get a lot of things she does. But realistically there's just no way we could do half the things she does! Now I'm not an idiot, I know only a few people read this but I think if one person saw that we did a room, and saved a ton of money, then maybe they'd try to do it themselves.

So I'm going to show you the things we've bought and how much we bought it for...that way you can see that you don't have to spend a lot to have the things you like!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmR5MdJi_yk5avHnji0JS_nHkFiDjdYvv4pJigjF9tlKpVtGIYmiijMaZYafwPd3AHm54BXAz7x3Mg4jD1bJmHdrmFXrJR5K2VlkaCFONM7SWIpdwHLtGxeKX4-yn7j38NFvT8PHVm9Rg/s320/radio.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570751870910324178" />

This bad boy we found on craigslist. Craigslist is our best friend. We look at it numerous times during the day and send each other things we've found. We got him for $10. Yup $10. Now it doesn't work and if we wanted to spend the money to make it work we could, but we just don't want to. Instead, Tim put 2 old computer speakers back behind and we have a cord that connects to our phones. We can plug it in whenever we want music. Not bad for 10 bucks!! That little fan cost us $40...oh wait we got 2 for $40!! One big one that you'll see someday in our room :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx34u2Swr3hYPHD_FJpqSgAUJd58joR7XHoWhlz4knb3VY60M2-P6kcEx0BCiheaFipmpSJeIVT-8H5Mb6r2hNeTwoDP3OLL2-tFdHixvg9SZZpaWZ8JfegPxkR6yGpGPaYWucDMIGfNY/s320/TIM_1040.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570752474613683122" />

This beaut is from an antique store and only cost us $50. We really wanted this other table but just couldn't bring ourselves to pay over $200 for it...then we ran into this. It's dirty but that gives it character. (I added some more when we painted..whoops) Antique stores are a lot like craigslist...you can barter. We talked them down and that's how we ended with $50. Amazing!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcruYUR4XRYbzB22tA0b8VmFBj8nMrzs6V5r6YaS0NM4sRvzkEid3mU6zHiEKIFY7-ubmHFmQVIxh9a0pp5XexVfHN9vb-khMB0flvsMCCCDX0EfVLXAn-dlX-F__4QSdaM4ryg-7AN4w/s320/card+catalog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5570752934168317858" />

And then there's this little gem. Just look at her. She's glorious. We didn't become obsessed with card catalog's until we started reading dreambookdesign.com. They have one that makes us drool!! (Go look at it!!) Sadly KC doesn't have a big supply of these and when we came across this on craigslist we acted fast! It was originally on there for $200...no thanks! I patiently watched it go down, and down until it got to where i could write and barter her. Yea we got it for $75!! Holy steal batman!! She was going to go in the entry way but was just too small :( She's downstairs now, where we can take in her beauty every night.

There will be more where that came from! And hopefully soon some dining room chairs!

jojodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-69353659331025388892011-02-01T10:13:00.000-08:002011-02-01T12:42:36.906-08:00Kitchen light DIYWhen we moved in, all the lights were thankfully livable. Since our house was a foreclosure, a company came in and painted everything inside and out, laid new carpet, and painted all the light fixtures. They looked a lot better but they don't match! We have had an amazing white chandelier from my brother and sister-in-laws wedding, that has been with us for a while. We love it! It went up I think the second night we were here. We are still trying to find lights for in the kitchen and the entry way. And the fan in the living room might get a white face lift...not 100% sure if you can paint a ceiling fan. Guess we will find out!

We have a light above our sink that was ok...but I found this lovely idea on esty.com and decided we had to do it!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTjuKB-y1t8jtjXVzMq82BxT0XcImzWLxpEjk3h6mkfwlzoau9DKYZvMTDgNYWbwumHdt1gDiFk1Dpa2T9jistNlXj4_kndsm3BxoUlxjgfuBYrPhIswyYLIZuF1aefcPjkc9Wn41qNAE/s320/photo.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568813450044858578" />

I wasn't really sure how it was going to get done, but that's were Tim comes in. He took apart our old light and tried to figure out what we could do.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLyW67DBdceFnNQ5FehzkvQ5BknSp26iLOZJCCjC8Phge7KzyoqkccE7eSP-cdfxcar-4kCYzz9Uq5g2FXIhQPMzoSNRELAqnKf3dPy6LKMY7TGpgVFdw_zlm-vxVS-aFVGMISnaUqnXE/s320/-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568813737228657906" />

After throwing out a few different ideas, we came up with this...He took off the glass surrounding the bulb, and then twisted off the part that the glass attached to. We found some hanging light things that dangle (good description!) and thankfully they fit in the previous light. We painted the light white and found 3 mason jars that match. Tim cut out circles in the lids so the dangling light fit perfectly through.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwWC-nOnYOZKGs6xhfPHAsgTmAdlH439GvGPi5UNIPaqfcq7c-uuTvtLBqeWk1geLq5DKRySyfjD3CLxaTxLsZmHhBesSM66Ure83bMu21-jz2kiNHid-uwPMjEKk_4PpiToLn3KNP_j8/s320/-2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568814017473560706" />

He shoved the dangle lights through, did all the wiring and voila! Here's the beauty! We love it! I can't wait to change out the rest of the lights so they all match!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 239px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL0eruA8aQ_Eg7eDAM0oGHu33mPnS6mQ0tMtZbH0xmrRVYHr1vgZ6qoGTCeGvZMgphNAR_AjECLR7KmJ4ETII0utJ1YKOlJrTkgv7nV1Vg1wqdTpLBF8GC6aGJ62M_91uQDvyG0jTaDXk/s320/photo-3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568816886640025778" />

Next on our to-do list are chairs...lots of chairs. 6 dining room chairs and 2 new chairs for the living room! We painted! It only took us the weekend, and that was with birthday parties, church, and getting some chairs in the middle of it all. We didn't get off to an early start like we planned on. We started actually rolling and cutting around 10:30. One amazing thing about my husband is he is an excellent cutter...meaning we didn't have to tape! If paint nicked the trim we'd quickly clean it up and if we missed a spot, I went through with white paint and touched up some spots. I rolled everything but the super high spots. And I got a little out of control and have some spots on the ceiling I need to touch up..oops!

We only had to do one coat...yes you read that right, ONE COAT!! We ended up getting the good stuff, primer and paint in one...that stuff is wonderful! I will admit that we had to do a quick roll over on a few spots but hey that's a lot better than having to do two coats! That saved us SO much time! The colors look amazing. We love that the grays are just slightly different. The darker gray isn't screaming "Look at me! I'm way darker than my friend over there!" And the blue/teal color is amazing too. We decided to continue on with it into the laundry room. It was a great idea until we were running out of paint. Thankfully I had our sample can, I used that back behind the washer and dryer so you can't tell if it's different. We have some plans to organize that room and I can't wait for that day!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAYQPyfuLZWKTVsyPJKJhAnw8I5guNrSiUat_H__ePPAWP_S9p6fEAh2o-n9-sz7wOBdjSTiTNgJ7LJch8TKMWEJ6JcnKlDd4XCYRJHck_hktgUga7Mf0tF4FSX1uOkuNTyvcdFmjGMjU/s320/TIM_1239.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564404389307900514" />
This isn't the best picture of the different grays but it does show you that they are close in color!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXj87tcuPPA28-bkAc2RsJVaHXgES4-E78oF0xmPYi3FxWsevQcdTKc5FpS7CPmRtR3sDQe4MwURicnaew0t-4oBRo-AfVa2JUiRZ2VzsLk2g3SWNQVm6DA7bbRAFXkf1z43D5P6-2ok0/s320/TIM_1236.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564402397228359298" />

Now about the scary parts. Who knew there would be scary parts to painting! But there was. We have high ceilings. And to get to those areas, we had to put the ladder in some unsafe spots. At one point, I was under the ladder holding it and Auntie B was on the other side holding it and spotting Tim. Auntie B came over to keep the wild boys out of our way. Thanks B!! Tim was very happy we only did one coat..as was I.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkoumKjQbDa4nmrUFlxCULaEF7dxCVhbGxbvH4M8zIazQm_J4UFv9V5ljwkABCjgdbtk_LY4mfgiarSvY_CmRuSxCE7NLa_pFaWTfInlEZ1GvBXJ_URdFFjLIVwyqS81IMF5XKhGl1_AA/s320/TIM_1123.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564402847712563394" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTiO9pm79pmYh4GWJZaBJ4DvqlSLvvGY-bV5p9vj5enxirF3BcDH_KhPRgPzTZxsYEn-B0WMu4fhmsZXBJUR4FQhzBd315IqN5_Z01vt1lxxPxOr943PY3lZWjW_-g5oAS_nu2JLRyZn4/s320/TIM_1119.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564403144510396178" />

We are so happy we are done, and that it isn't beige anymore! When we think about painting the other rooms, we know it's going to be like a cake walk since we did the biggest area of the house. I guess I should mention, we also painted our railings. It was all white except the top part. It was wood and we weren't fond of it. So it's all white and beautiful now! I finished my no sew curtains too! Just real quick I'll tell you what I did. I found the fabric at JoAnn's. It's perfect..it has yellow, gray, and that blue/teal color. We had to have it pretty high up on the wall since the fire place is right there, so we ended up getting about 5 yards (the whole roll). I cut them the length we wanted and then cut it down the center. The curtains didn't need to be too thick so I got lucky there. I wasn't going to hem the length of the curtain, but after seeing how bad the fraying was and my awesome cut job..I went back to JoAnn's for more hem tape. All together I think it took me less than an hour to make. We got the curtain rod and ring/clips at Target in black. They look great!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdsClcSjDXvTsetfE56mPxidPFwj95_xrhNbZF6btRxE6LbIKg-2HX9BHSZn26et0zXMQoiBr0PtuyraBLJmkViB1bXb-pW42yx4AK_6JEiHznaaFHepX1yxn7FZDR8zSRMm7AWU7QEF4/s320/TIM_1242.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564408631184216930" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRBd88nw8J0fi6-yh86T85QY-oroRjJh4_PM38exHRU1gL8fM2ebezaB2NMZhQgjH_uI_afuPh1JSGHXFXV2LEyGNxLLxFIAKHKzQtrgAc_HYGLS7a0-WtWhQHv_YwCdDPjL2OUEqW_-k/s320/TIM_1231.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564403765330153234" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixuNAi1Go_cfZ8ojrw4hx5_DqOrjeer_hMfLyROMF5_ZRO6NUxqusU4JoKj5MRAxQAROs58wHZjjPJMzAgeJwyv6jTlIAkQyGJbnRHXVpUUiUlalvl2mepgiA8X2trIL-Jb7sReisVwRk/s320/TIM_1254.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564405009585030754" />

Lastly I'll leave you with ideas and upcoming projects! As we were painting we kept throwing out different ideas and finally narrowed down how we are going to decorate these rooms. The wall to the right of the fire place ( which isn't pictured, sorry) is very bare. It only has a lonely buffet. We decided we are going to put white floating shelves all over that wall. There will probably be 5 to 7 of them and fun different things all over them. Old books, mason jars, pictures, candle sticks, my owls and maybe some more creatures to keep them company. And I found some amazing chairs on craigslist that need some paint and new fabric. They may be going to an upholster :( Hopefully in the next few weeks, we will have a lot of this done! I'm hoping to find a small cupboard for the corner in the dining room. So we can put all the colored glass we got and other little different things in there. We also decided we will be painting our kitchen cabinets white. They are this odd, off white, beige color that looks alright with the paint colors, but we think white would look A LOT better. The hardware on their now was spray painted and the more we use them the more they chip. So we're getting black hardware but we have a fun twist involved with those..you'll have to wait to see that! Also the top cabinets by the sink will have glass doors and we will put matching plates and what not in there. We are working on a cool light for above the sink..that will come very soon! And sometime soon we will be getting a new sink, faucet, counter tops, and back splash. Maybe Late spring or summer that will happen!

jojodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-63823642931644464092011-01-10T10:17:00.000-08:002011-01-10T14:45:03.655-08:00Oh...Paint!Well that time is slowly creeping up on us Fleenor's...Painting!! I have to say I'm pretty excited to get rid of all the beige! Every inch of this house is beige and I'm ready to bring some color into our lives! Since before the house was ours we knew we wanted to do grays and a blueish, greenish color. I'm not really sure what you'd call that color. We went to Nebraska Furniture Mart a few months ago and found an amazing couch in this mystery blue color we love. I think the color was called "sea foam green" at NFM but it doesn't look too green.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzQ3wCXiv1U8Yd6I7uHHWRjXkWKP8LGm5_JMd4IZKTT1OCnH6q1kqLnoWEp3cOPntfmM8sYg05g9hkCEg1KtBF18ibCgmBuM8uTdQfxLuuP5NfYqZT-dWiD1Xl1qLUhoAdtPzP2Y7demo/s320/TIM_1033.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5560689495340877922" />

We took our cue from there. The walls will be two shades of gray. A light and then a little darker gray. Since it's such an open space we decided to change up the grays so it isn't one note all the way around. The colors will be not just in the living/dining area but the walls continue down the hall and down the stairs and that little hallway. Lots of gray! At first we were going to do a chair rail around the main area and through the upstairs hallway. The top being gray and the bottom being white, with white squares...like so.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 226px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYxRKlM5llOesBaZGGObPoRZNo32yGa2o0sMiuob7ME7tCfMbLR6AVqMk7tbW2jXFr4yM2h-0aohkB7QYxKlddFZfT5B0_r96Xkk9Vtk0zxkRmDLm7dVeQP1ahoPS7WANzjH91Gd1TOdQ/s320/04+waincot+shadow+boxes+2+piece+chair+rail.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5560689981797853202" />

But thankfully we had to wait to start this big project and we figured out it'd be a waste of money. After looking at the area over and over again, we noticed that you wouldn't see the squares. The walls are kind of choppy..we have 4 big windows, our back door and a fire place that take up a lot of wall and the areas that are wall, are pretty small. Also we have a few pieces of furniture that cover the areas that have a lot of wall space! That sounds really confusing, but you'll understand soon! We've had some more ideas of what to do to make that room not so gray, but their always seem to be a "but" and we are back to square one. Kind of frustrating!! One of our solutions is to paint the walls in the kitchen that wonderful blue color. I found some hand towels at Target that are ridiculously close to the couch and my wonderful husband bought me a Kitchen Aid mixer for my birthday in that color, so why not throw it on the walls! I'm pretty freaking excited!

We headed to Lowes last week to start the agonizing task of choosing colors. Grays are so sticking hard! They can be too blue, too brown, or too green and you won't know until it's on your walls mocking you because you just jumped in and painted every wall already! So after sifting through a crap load of grays, we found two light grays and two dark grays that we liked. And a blue that we loved. (it matches my mixer perfectly!) We bought them all in sample sizes, spending $2.94 for the little cans. That's a lot better than buying 2 cans in each color and praying the color is right and it end up not being right at all! We did 2 coats on each square and patiently waited for them to dry and for some sunlight. Sadly we were never home when it was sunny and it's winter here in KC, so it's vary rare to have a sunny day! But Saturday we woke up and got to see what they looked like during the day.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzzfObA2TioGTwoM-i7i8YWevxV6Up8ZsPLPDzA2aCZHJZyG1cTQ-PQImGh4pcD6wOm17uLbr5bnoh1kOXSMEhqYz9FSctmfxVCznY1fguIMUPb2_DI_g_8NeZ3xs4aHn7CfvM4oW0WFw/s320/TIM_1034.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5560690387679147890" />

We picked the two grays but had second thoughts on the blue. It's bright and cheery but maybe a little too bright for our liking. I ran back up to Lowes, with a second choice I had hiding in our junk drawer and bought a sample. And thank the Lord it's perfect!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4hSAggURWM42IdDdlgGAeheM07xioi9YVK2E4onh_zWEKh3drZDR4mj4JvckbQTstwHZviryLmFVKDS9-pNMF4a2n96EkqcVBmwb8q72QKcyqke1ZJ5zN3ugQTHfylR7hI7mSZBs_9N4/s320/TIM_1035.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5560690650982124882" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_7YMNqsdVW2XRygllPtgAp06_bzqE8om9uel-19uZ3BJb5ZuMHD8CLeLJ21yGaiNDNXC3SL_n1mSiXRNvR3N5alFI_5kxSXtnH2u84u5ARNXx_D074yihwrKzU5IlFMoVn-fpQcEX1P8/s320/TIM_1037.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5560690938416518738" />

We decided that this weekend is the weekend we paint! We aren't done decorating and what not but I'll still give you a sneak peak!

I had to add this of our boys. A lot has gone on in the past month and sadly that doesn't include anything getting done in the house!! Well I guess I should take that back because a few things have happened. Right after Thanksgiving and after family left, I got pretty sick!! I didn't leave the house for a few weeks. Then the holidays snuck up on me and we had family in town! So now we can get the ball rolling again! Tim started sanding the kitchen table and chairs. There are a few chairs who still need some sanding but we should be able to paint and recover the seats sometime this week..I hope. He did get the table done and I love it! Once we get it all done I'll put up all the pictures up. I also started our no sew curtains! Thanks to my obsession with reading blogs I found out how to do it. Not like it's hard or anything, it's just that I didn't think to do it! I'm not the best sewer in the world so I was excited to start them! I'll be using this fun trick for the rest of the house! I love buying fabric and making curtains or pillows out of them that no one else have in their house. I'm not sure if I saved any money doing it myself but I like them better!

We are in the process of getting our paint colors all narrowed down. We decided this time around to buy a few sample cans that were in the colors we are wanting and testing those first. We have some pretty high ceilings and I don't want to paint twice! At the last house we were at we bought all the paint and went to town. We had to paint the living room a few times because the beige turned out pink. And we also bought paint that people returned and threw it on some walls...we ran out before finishing and had some crazy things going on. We want to make sure that these are the colors we love and stick to it! I hope that we paint soon...I'm tired of every ounce of that house being beige!! Wish us luck!!jodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-31412110523228058642010-12-05T17:43:00.000-08:002010-12-05T20:01:49.332-08:00The House!!Now that we finally have internet i can show you all our house! I'll just show a few of my favorite rooms so I don't bore you with all the empty beige rooms! When we work on a room I'll be posting pics, so you'll end up seeing them all eventually!

Before I start posting I'll fill you in with whats been going on these past 2 weeks. We got all moved in and had our first guest! My brother and sister-in-law came in town for Thanksgiving and stayed with us for a few nights! We held Thanksgiving here for my sister and her kids, and my brother and sis-in-law! It was amazing, I loved having people over and not worrying about there not being enough room! Thankfully we haven't painted, my youngest nephew decided he wanted to decorate the walls! He's wild. We've also found out that home owning isn't the easiest thing...I kind of miss being able to call maintenance! Tim is a handy guy so thankfully the little random hiccups have been fixed! Other than that we absolutely love the house!

This is the front...nothing special. Eventually we will be painting, adding new numbers and shutters (modern ones), and getting a new front door that'll be painted as well!

Oh the living room..our first project. Sometime we will be making a trip up to ikea to get new counter tops and a farmhouse sink. I can't wait for that day!!

There it is, well parts of it! We've already started fixing up some of our furniture, those will come soon!!

jo

jodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-65255063047873976122010-11-24T08:37:00.000-08:002010-11-24T08:57:41.770-08:00All moved in!We are finally in our first house! Well we have been since Sunday but this has been my first chance to get on here and share that with everyone! It has been stressful! A few months ago we booked a vacation for a week in November, who knew it'd be a few days after we closed. We packed all we could before we left and pretty much the whole kitchen, thanks to one of my wonderful sister-in-laws. We landed Saturday night, did some last minute shove everything in a box and were ready. Nothing like getting up at 7 after a very relaxing vacation to move! We had some amazing helpers come and either watch our wild dogs or help us load the truck. It was an all day event. I still can't get over how much stuff we had in that small loft! Tim's parents came and helped us unload (thanks again!!). We took the truck back and went to get some little things that wouldn't fit. On my last trip out to the car I was taking our bikes, I had a can of black paint in my bike basket...needless to say the bike fell over and black paint was everywhere!! I felt awful! Cleaning that up sucked but thankfully the floors at the loft are concrete. Whoops!

For the past 3 nights we have been unpacking like crazy! And for the most part, we are done! There are a few boxes here and there that are lying around but they don't have anything important in it, I hope. The dogs absolutely love the place! Winston is having troubles with the stairs but he'll get the hang of it soon, and Gus seems a million times happier! I'll post pictures once we have Internet. It's pretty bare since we have so many projects that we need to start!

Jojodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240310182766521255.post-51738129909875585862010-11-10T19:40:00.000-08:002010-11-10T21:00:39.961-08:00Meet the Fleenors!First, I guess I should introduce ourselves! I'm Jodi and my amazing husband is Tim, and we've been married for about 2 in a half years! We have 2 dogs-Gus a 3 year old mini poodle, and Winston a 1 year old Golden Retriever. They are like our children! Tim is an amazing photographer and I'm a nanny to an amazing little boy!

Since we got married, we have been moving place to place and trying to buy our first house. It all started about a month or so after we got married. But it wasn't as easy as we thought it was going to be. Who knew there would be so many obstacles for us to go through! We would think we would have everything we needed and then they would throw something else at us. In February I lost my job and we decided to put all the house buying stuff on the back burner and move to the Rivermarket. We figured we should do something like that before we started having kids. It's been a lot of fun, only problem was...WE WERE NEVER HOME!! Our lives and family we still back in the suburbs. I got my job and we decided just to see what was out there house wise and if we finally had everything we needed. We narrowed our search to "old houses." Basically if it was 50 years or older, we wanted it. We wanted something that had a lot charm and that has some history! People who own these houses, we learned, they don't like to sell them! I surprisingly found one that fit everything we could ever dream of. It was a classic two-story with a sun room and a porch that was screened in. It was adorable! We were serious about buying that sucker, then reality slapped us in the face! It was a HUD house (government owned) and they have a lot of guidelines for you to go by. Needless to say we had to walk sadly away from that house.

After that, we decided to not limit ourselves or else we will never find a house. We noticed in our search that these houses weren't starter houses, they were what you bought after having a starter house. Funny how the market is. I think I looked at close to 60 houses and Tim was lucky enough to only see the ones I really liked. We found one that was incredible, and HUGE! It was a 3 bed 2 bath and had a 3 car garage. But who knew investors would try to scheme us. Yet again we had to walk away from a great house. (That house is still on the market and this was about 2 1/2 months ago..suckers!) Then we found ANOTHER house. Even more amazing than the first. 3 bed 3 bath 3 car garage. An actual dining room and the master had super high ceilings and a great master bath! Basement was finished (with some mold), all we had to do was fence it in. We decided to put an offer in and learned that we had to put our best offer in by noon Monday. So we thought of a clever offer and off it went. Our offer was accepted but they wanted us to close in 2 weeks! HAHAHA!!! We would of had to had our appraisal before our inspection and that would of left us with dealing with the mold issue...no thanks!

We were getting a little tired of all the waiting and then nothing happening for us. In our long search we fell upon our now new house! It's a 3 bed 2 bath 2 car garage with a big yard and finished basement. My absolute favorite part is the living/dining/kitchen area. It's so light and airy and just awesome! It was right at the top of our max and we never thought we'd get it. So we threw them a low offer and figured it would get countered, which it did...like 5 times. We FINALLY agreed on a price and after some more obstacles, we closed on it...like 3 hours ago. Of course we don't have the keys yet so it doesn't feel real. The house is what you'd find in the dictionary under "typical suburban house" not at all what we were wanting at first. But then we thought, we can make it exactly like we want...so we are! That is going to be the whole point of this blog. My favorite thing to do is look online and get ideas from other people and make it my own. I love looking on etsy, and my new obsession is craigslist. I have a big pile of stuff i got on there sitting at Tim's work, just waiting for me and my sander. I also am in love with a blog called dreambookdesign.com. They are pretty much amazing and i want their house! Tim met her through friends and he sent me her blog and now I can't stop reading it.

Tim and I have so many projects lined up, it's not even funny. As the process goes on, we are going to document it and put it up here and who knows, maybe someone will draw some inspiration from it. I might even add some random things about us if the projects are taking longer than we think. It's going to be long process so stick with us!! Thanks for taking the time to read, here are some pictures of us, our dogs and the new house. (We will be painting the outside hopefully this summer or next..)

Jo

jodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03277289967355307572noreply@blogger.com1
